Homemade Corn Tortillas are quick and easy to make with just three ingredients: maseca, salt, and water. Perfect for your next taco night! Once you get the hang of kneading the dough until it's soft and pliable, you'll whip these up in no time. They're deliciously fresh and way better than store-bought.
The Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups maseca (instant corn masa flour)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
Instructions
- 1
In a bowl, add two cups of maseca, half a teaspoon salt, and one and a half cups of warm water.
- 2
Mix the ingredients, adding a little more water if the dough feels too dry or crumbly.
- 3
Knead until you have a soft and pliable dough.
- 4
Form the dough into golf ball-sized balls, adding a bit of water and folding to prevent cracking.
- 5
Place a dough ball between a plastic-lined tortilla press and press down to form a tortilla. Alternatively, use a large heavy object with a flat surface.
- 6
Heat a pan and cook the tortilla on each side for about 60 seconds. If it puffs up, that's a great sign.
- 7
Once nicely browned on both sides, keep the tortilla warm in a kitchen towel.
Helpful Notes
- ◈If the dough feels too dry, add a little more water.
- ◈Using a tortilla press can make forming tortillas easier, but a heavy object with a flat surface works too.
- ◈If the tortilla puffs up while cooking, it's a good sign that it's cooking properly.
