It's even better than most restaurant versions I've tried!
The Recipe
Ingredients
- Butter
- Sliced onions
- Garlic powder
- Black pepper
- Pinch of sugar
- Flour
- Beef broth
- Worcestershire sauce
- Fresh herbs
- Salt
- Pepper
- Sliced baguette
- Optional garlic butter
- Gruyere cheese
Instructions

Melt some butter in the pot.

Add sliced onions with garlic powder, black pepper, and a pinch of sugar, then sauté until caramelized.

Toast in some flour for a few minutes.

Add beef broth and scrape the bottom of the pot.

Add Worcestershire sauce, fresh herbs, salt, and pepper.

Once it boils, lower the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.

Toast sliced baguette and add optional garlic butter on top.

Spoon the soup into an oven-safe bowl and top with some Gruyere cheese.

Toast more Gruyere on top, then broil until golden.
